This is the first post here for several years. And a lot has changed.
We have always had the goal that we would move onto Heron when we retired. And that this would be when we were both past 60.
In 2021 we had a couple of health scares. They weren’t Covid related but the general situation of the last 2 years also contributed to our decision to retire. Now. Immediately. Well I say immediately. Heather asked the question in March/April and I needed “more data” to make a decision. And that took until June. Anyone who knows me will know that’s pretty quick for me.
We also got bitten by the motorhome bug this year. Having rented one – we now own one. Oh – one other thing – we’ve nearly sold the house, and I have already sold my car.
Heather retired from District nursing and I closed down/sold my IT Support business on 1st December and right now we are trying to get everything sorted on the boat and motorhome. One major project is to finish sorting the roof of the boat and get the solar panels installed.
Another major project is downsizing from a 5 bedroom house with cellar and garage to much smaller living spaces. It’s amazing just how much stuff you accumulate over 35 years. That you then move from house to house without ever needing or using it. And although it can be difficult at times, ditching that stuff can be very liberating.
By January, we will be living on our narrowboat Heron and taking holidays from that in the motorhome (which I refuse to call Hollie!). We will be true nomads. Exploring the British canals on our boat and the rest of the UK and beyond in our motorhome.
